Profesör Tuncay Kardaş

Tuncay Kardas is professor of International Politics and director of the Middle East Institute in Sakarya University. He received his B.A. and M.A degrees from Bilkent University, Ankara. He also holds MsEcon and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. His main research areas are critical security studies, sociology of war, international relations theory and visual semiotics. He has coordinated the following projects: 'Inter-Societal Security Dilemma in Turkey' (Sakarya University) and 'Inter-Societal Security Dilemmas in the Middle East' (Marmara University). His recent works have been published in the following academic journals: International PoliticsWar in History, Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Digest of Middle East Studies, Turkish Studies, Middle East Critique and Insight Turkey. Professor Kardaş has co-edited two books: Exploring Samuel Huntington's Faultlines, from Al-Andalus to Virtual Ummah, (New York: Oxford University Press, 2009) and Non-State Armed Actors in the Middle East (New York: Palgrave, 2017). He is currently working on the following project: 'Thinking History Through Theory' and recently co-authored 'İmparatorluğun Savaş Kararı: Osmanlı Devleti Birinci Dünya Savaşına Neden Girdi' (The Empire's War Decision: Why Did the Ottoman State Enter the Great War, 2019
